PeerGuardian Tip
If you are a bittorrent (BT from here on) user you should probably be using some sort of protection software specifically for BT use. The jury’s out on whether these actually help or not but hey, can’t hurt right?
My bittorrent firewall of choice is PeerGuardian (PG from here on). I recently found out the hard way that the history file will grow unchecked to the point that PG will not run.
Here’s how to fix this if you arrive at this point.
If you look in the PG install directory (C:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2 by default) you will find a history.db file. Simply delete this file and then restart PG. The file will be recreated automatically.
Now to keep it from happening again go to the settings and chance the “Do Nothing” setting to “Remove” and set the days to whatever you like just so long as the file doesn’t get over 500MB or so.
The default is apparently to “Do Nothing” since I don’t remember ever changing this setting.
I suppose that I should point out that by doing this you remove the entire blocked/allowed history from PG. If you feel you need this history then use the option “Archive then Delete” instead of just deleting the history.db file.
At any rate — there you have it. Hope this helps someone.
